Isabel Martínez is an immigrant born in Oaxaca, Mexico; she is proud of her indigenous roots.  Her experiences with trauma led her to find ways to survive and thrive, and now she has over 20 years of experience providing human services to her beloved community. She is the founder of the community-focused women’s folkloric group, Nuestra Danza sin Fronteras and is an active member of her beloved community. She has advocated, participated, and volunteered for different agencies through her career, and currently serves as the co-director of the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s Legal Clinic. She graduated from Grandview University with a B.A in Human Services and a minor in psychology. In this program, you'll hear Isabel’s “spark story” and what she reads to stay inspired.

 

Isabel Martínez es una inmigrante nacida en Oaxaca, México; ella está orgullosa de sus raíces indígenas. Sus experiencias con el trauma la llevaron a encontrar formas de sobrevivir y prosperar, y ahora tiene más de 20 años de experiencia brindando servicios a su amada communidad en torno a Servicios Humanos. Es la fundadora del grupo folclórico de mujeres enfocado en la comunidad, Nuestra Danza sin Fronteras. Isabel es un miembro activo de su comunidad a abogado, participado y a sido voluntaria para diferentes agencias a lo largo de su carrera, también es codirectora de la Clínica Legal de la Coalición contra la Violencia Doméstica de Iowa y se graduó de la Universidad de Grandview con una licenciatura en Servicios Humanos y menor en psicología. En este programa, tu escucharás la "historia de la chispa" de Isabel y lo que ella  lee para mantenerse inspirada.
