Event Details
Join sewing instructor Kaitlyn Munro on Wednesdays in October for a five-week Beginners Sewing program focused on hand-sewing basics. This program is for students in grades 4–8.
Participants will learn visible mending, upcycling clothing into unique treasures, and get an introduction to using a sewing machine.
If possible, please bring a basic sewing kit (needles, pins, threader, scissors) and items like a t-shirt, jeans, or fun patterned socks to transform. Materials will be available on-site, but bringing your own supplies is appreciated!
Week 1: Introduction to sewing! How to thread a needle, how to tie a knot, different hand stitches, and visible hand mending. If you have jeans to donate for fabric or clean, fun patterned socks you want to use, please bring those! Our project today will be a flat “picture” that we will make with different stitches and fabric, and you can use this as part of a future project, or take it home and hang it up as its own piece of art.
