The exhibit, Suspended: Systemic Oppression in Our Schools opened in the fall 2022. Though Brown v Board of Education (1954) ended segregation in public schools, the practice has continued through the use of zero tolerance policies, surveillance, and policing of students. These methods have a disproportionate effect on children of color, LGBTQ youth, and the disabled resulting in inadequate education, increased dropout rates, and incarceration.  The exhibit will also discuss alternative ways being implemented to dismantle current school system policies.
