Broaden your perspective, find new strategies for handling life’s challenges, or deepen your understanding of a topic when you join us for a monthly conversation around a life-changing nonfiction book. 

This month we will be reading The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone by Olivia Laing.  We will meet in the main lobby of the Des Moines Art Center at 5:00 for a special tour of their exhibit, Artists Around A Table.  Then we will gather in a meeting room at the Des Moines Art Center to discuss the book from 6 to 7:30.

Limited copies of the book will be available at the Central Library starting June 11, 2026.

Central Parking

Free library parking is available in Central's underground parking garage for two hours per visit. Parking around the library is metered at various costs from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
