Create stunning 3D prints with our Bambu X1C filament 3D Printer!
In order to use the Bambu X1C, you will need to complete the training and sign the Tech Central waiver (you may sign this when you come to the lab).
To book a reservation, please call (515) 283-4152, ext. 3 or speak with someone at the Information Desk at the Central Library.
Station Information
3D prints require a long time to create, so we only allow one reservation per day. You may come in at any time during the day of your reservation to upload your 3D print (provided Tech Central is open and available).
You do not need to stay in Tech Central while your file prints. Please ensure that you have reserved enough time for your file to finish printing before the next reservation begins. If necessary, you may reserve the station for two days.
You will need to have an STL (stereolithography) file to use the printer.
The library has a variety of PLA filament colors to choose from. We try to stock these colors:
Black
White
Grey
Cocoa Brown
Magenta
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Cyan
Purple
We charge $.05/gram of filament. For example, if your 3D print uses 23 grams of filament, it would cost $1.15.
Rules and Guidelines
- You must be a Des Moines Public Library cardholder
- For ages 14 and up
- Users under the age of 14 must be accompanied by parent/guardian
- Reservations may be submitted two weeks in advance
- Reservations start at two hours per day, with extensions subject to availability
- Walk-in appointments are subject to availability
- Covered drinks are welcome; food is not permitted
- DMPL’s Customer Behavior Policy and Internet Use Policy apply
