Genealogist Ricki King shares beginner techniques for tracing your family tree using free resources through DMPL and online. The program will highlight some of the challenges of tracing Black and Indigenous family histories and techniques that can help find the missing pieces.

Ricki King is a private investigator, genealogist running a full-service research company based in Iowa and covering the Midwest. In 2018 Ricki was instrumental in changing the law on access to death certificates in Iowa from 75 years to 50 years and opening fetal death records.

Ricki King holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Drake University, is a certificate holder in Boston University's Genealogical Research program, a member of both the Association of Professional Genealogists, and the National Genealogical Society.
