All Locations Closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

All DMPL locations will be closed on Monday, January 20, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The Forest Avenue Library's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration will take place at 4 PM at the Forest Avenue Library. Doors open at 3:30 PM for the program.

Warming Center Information: The Central Library meeting room wing will be open on Monday, January 20, from 9 AM-5 PM for use as a warming center. The library itself will remain closed.

Create a masterpiece for the Des Moines Public Library's first ever Tiny Art Show! 

Pick up your free art kit at the Central Library starting December 30th.  Kits will include an easel, canvas, some paints and a brush.  You must register with your email and your library card number to get your free kit.  Limit one kit per registrant.

Entries must be submitted by Friday, January 10th.

We will have a gallery reception on January 18th at 2:00 PM where we will announce the winners of the Children, Teen, and Adult categories.

Please pick up your art between January 29th and February 1st.

Central Parking

Free library parking is available in Central's underground parking garage for two hours per visit. Parking around the library is metered at various costs from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
