Program Description

Event Details

Disability Rights Iowa attorney Stephanie Smith will talk about the rights you have through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and ways you can enforce them. Plus, she will briefly explain what an IEP means and who is eligible. This presentation will offer parents of students with disabilities an overview of your procedural safeguards when you don't agree with your child’s special education program or when your child is subject to school discipline procedures. Students who would like to learn about their own rights are welcome to attend, though the presentation will be geared to an adult audience.

We know it can be difficult for parents to get to the library. Children may attend, and quiet activities will be available in the program room. If you would prefer to attend via Zoom video feed, you can register here. Registration is not required to attend in person.
