Eleven year old Akeelah loves exploring the dictionary and spelling difficult words. With the support of her South Los Angeles community and guidance from a mysterious teacher she dreams of winning the National Spelling Bee, but her mother refuses to sign her permission slip! Come to Forest Avenue Library, discover some advanced vocabulary, and see if Akeelah achieves her dream! Starring Keke Palmer, Laurence Fishburne, and Angela Bassett. Rated PG.
