All Locations Closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

All DMPL locations will be closed on Monday, January 20, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The Forest Avenue Library's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration will take place at 4 PM at the Forest Avenue Library. Doors open at 3:30 PM for the program.

Warming Center Information: The Central Library meeting room wing will be open on Monday, January 20, from 9 AM-5 PM for use as a warming center. The library itself will remain closed.

Program Description

Event Details

Join DMPL, in partnership with the Des Moines Knitting Guild, in the May Fun with Yarn session. In these monthly lessons, library staff and volunteers from the guild help children and teens learn how to knit and crochet, while learning about the many benefits of these skills. At the end of each month's session, each participant takes home a small project made during the program!

Central Parking

Free library parking is available in Central's underground parking garage for two hours per visit. Parking around the library is metered at various costs from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
