All DMPL locations are currently serving as Polk County Warming Centers during open hours. DART will be providing free rides to warming centers while the extreme temperature plan is in effect. More information about warming centers can be found on the Polk County website.

Program Description

Event Details

“Build Piñatas to Break Barriers” is a family workshop promoting creativity, connection, and community during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Families work together to repurpose recycled materials into colorful piñatas while learning simple ways to strengthen relationships through communication and shared activities. The program encourages positive family interaction, cooperative problem‑solving, and hands-on engagement suitable for all ages. Participants will leave with a completed craft, increased awareness of protective factors, and practical ideas for fostering strong, nurturing family bonds.

Enjoy this event with a bilingual, Spanish and English-speaking presenter. 

While geared for ages 6-11, younger and older youth are welcome. Registration is encouraged though not required.

 

Construyendo Piñatas para Romper Barreras” es un taller familiar que promueve la creatividad, la conexión y la comunidad durante el Mes Nacional de la Prevención del Abuso Infantil. Las familias trabajan juntas para reutilizar materiales reciclados y crear coloridas piñatas, mientras aprenden formas sencillas de fortalecer sus relaciones a través de la comunicación y actividades compartidas.

El programa fomenta la interacción familiar positiva, la resolución cooperativa de problemas y la participación práctica adecuada para todas las edades. Los participantes se llevan una manualidad terminada, una mayor conciencia de los factores de protección y ideas prácticas para fomentar vínculos familiares fuertes y afectuosos."

This program is designed for children and accompanying adults. Please plan to attend and be engaged with your child for this program. Drop offs will not be permitted.

Children’s Program

Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by a caregiver over 12 years old.
