Due to the Des Moines Public Library being closed to the public, we are now offering people the opportunity to sign up for a digital library card.
A digital library card will work as a temporary, three-month card that will allow you to use our digital materials – eBooks, eAudiobooks, streaming services, databases, and other resources such as free access to The Washington Post and The New York Times.
Some digital materials, including all streaming video and some downloadable eBooks and eAudiobooks, are only available to residents of Des Moines and rural Polk County.
Once the card expires, digital cardholders will need to come to the library with a photo ID and proof of address and get a new physical card.
NOTE: Due to COPPA, cards are only available for people age 13 and older.
How it works:
- Fill out the form below.
- A Des Moines Public Library representative will reach out via email in the next two business days with instructions on how to start using your card. Library staff is responding to requests from 8 AM-5PM Monday through Friday, so thank you in advance for your patience.
NOTE: If you already have a Des Moines Public Library card, you do not need a digital card to access digital materials. This is a new way for people to sign up for a library card without being present in a building.
