Dino Dig Storytime

Listen to some dinosaur stories, songs and more as we try and guess why kind of dinosaur tracks have been left at East Side Library! Pick up a shovel and a brush and join us as we unearth prehistoric fossils! We’ll create our own fossils and find hidden objects as we dig through dirt! Be ready to get a little dirty. This program encourages sensory play as kids sort through different textures, patterns, and colors!

The Arts and the Des Moines Public Library

Nov 10
Saturday 10:30 am
The Des Moines Public Library has a rich history of supporting art. In 1916, the library worked with the newly formed Des Moines Association of Fine Arts to make a gallery space available to “purchase and hold title to paintings acquired for the benefit of the public, and to bring exhibitions to the city.” That collection eventually became part of the Des Moines Art Center when it opened in 1948. In 2016, the Central Library opened an art gallery to celebrate Iowa artists and bolster creative and expressive energy in the Des Moines community.

Rosie's Super Park Celebration

There’s a new place for families to explore with Rosie. Visit the North Side Library to celebrate the opening of Rosie’s Park. Join us for crafts, activities, and stories. You can also meet Rosie, the library mascot, and visit with Spiderman and Wonder Woman from the Iowa League of Heroes!

The new space at North joins other Rosie-themed areas, including Rosie’s City at Central, Rosie’s Forest at Forest, Rosie’s Zoo at South, and Rosie’s Ocean at East. Food has been donated by Mercy Medical Center Food and Nutrition Services.
