Miss Sue is crazy for kids and crazy for books. The best possible combination she thinks.
She’s been telling stories at the Library since 2005. Before that, she owned a children’s bookstore in Des Moines called, The Alligator’s Tale.
She has been the Rosie Outreach Coordinator since March, 2009.
Miss Sue loves reading (of course), gardening and spending time with her family and cute, silly monkeys - like Millie. And Millie loves all things B. Like books….and bananas! Another good combination |

Miss Sue says…
Anyone can be a storyteller!
I find that reading books to children is one of life’s most rewarding activities! Everyone loves to hear a story – and they especially love to hear a story from someone they care about! Make a point to read and tell stories to your children many times during the day. It’s not hard at all and practice makes perfect! Here are a couple tips!
Make it fun! It should never be a chore – or even worse, a punishment. It should be a time to share a close moment or a time to act silly. You can read books or just tell stories from your past or from your imagination. Let them tell stories too – they have so much to say!
Make it interactive! Let the child be a part of the story. Have them repeat lines, make predictions or tell the story in their own words. Ask questions or let them complete sentences for you. Recall important points in the story and relate the story to the child’s own experiences. Discuss how the characters might be feeling.
Make it a learning experience! Not every story time need to be a lesson, but point out letters or sequences of events in stories. Talk about the meaning of words they may not be familiar with. Point out the Title, or the Cover or “The End”.
Make it about them! The more you love your audience, they more they love you right back!
Come into the Library – We’d love to help you find books just right for you and your reader!
