What if . . .
there were no literacy and reading programs…no Summer Reading Program for kids of all ages…no annual AViD series (Authors Visiting in Des Moines) to encourage aspiring authors and entertain and education our audiences... no foreign language collection to serve an increasingly diverse central Iowa population?

What if . . .
there were no computers in all six library locations, providing public access to the internet…no broad array of databases and programs for research and learning?

What if . . .
there were no special learning opportunities for teens... no programs of their own and a cool place for them to gather in each branch of the library...

What if . . .
the regular stream of new books, periodicals, reference materials,
music CD's and videos was reduced to a trickle?

Without these, and so many other library offerings, the entire community would be a poorer place to live, learn and work. Programs of the Des Moines Public Library touch the lives of people of all ages, all backgrounds, in all areas of metro Des Moines. And these wonderful opportunities for learning, recreation and community building are offered free, only through the support of this community. City funding must be limited to the library's operational needs only.
